European Space Agency Got Hack Experience

The European Space Agency (ESA) confirmed that last weekend its network was hacked. TinKode, a hacker from Romania posted on his personal blog FTP login credentials, email addresses, passwords for administrators and Apache server configuration files he had obtain in LSE internal network.

The technical service of the ESA took its FTP servers offline and reset all login credentials. Users were immediately informed about the incident. An ESA spokesman claimed that the attack did not hit the main site and it did not affect the internal network. The servers that were compromised included less sensitive systems involved in sharing scientific data between the ESA and its partners.

TinKode did not reveal the method that was used to hack the site. Judging by the email addresses that were published, a number of users seem to be working with CERN science institute, BAE defense systems, and a lot of European universities. ESA is also not keen on disclosing the method of the brake-in and. ESA states that the hacker had not contacted with them before or after the attack.
